Statement on Coronavirus (COVID-19)
It is with much regret that I have had to make the decision today to cancel all courses for 2020. Fat Hen will now be closed for all business until 2021 while we re-imagine a new way of being and working.
Having looked through all the government covid guidance I feel that I cannot put in all the measures required of hospitality businesses for our courses in their current format.
I had hoped that measures would be relaxed by the Autumn but as we are nearly in August I am doubtful that anything will change in the next couple of months.
Our courses are all about camaraderie, communal cooking and feasting. This cannot be done with social distancing and masks/visors.
We sit in close quarters, work alongside each other at big farmhouse tables and travel together in my minibus. This is just not something we can do socially distanced.
We will be offering private bookings for family groups so please get in touch if this is something you are interested in.
I could run the courses with increased washing facilities and increased cleaning of surfaces etc. but we don’t have the space to eat apart from each other and since most of you come in ones or twos this means that we cannot put in place the recommended 1m distance between people from different households or bubbles.
I wouldn’t want to put you at risk or in a situation where you might feel anxious or uncomfortable being in close quarters with others. Some of you will be taking extra precautions because of vulnerable family members so we need to respect that everyone has a different level of risk they are prepared to take.
I would be interested to gauge your opinion on the current guidance and how you personally feel about this. As soon as the situation is relaxed then I will be able to operate again but until then I can’t run these courses.
I will be keeping everyone’s 2020 bookings open for re-booking for 2021. I will also refund you if you aren’t able to postpone your place on a course.
Thank you for your understanding in these challenging times.
