WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?
This course is designed for children between ages 5 – 12. Children younger than age 7 need to be accompanied by an adult.
COURSE OUTLINE:
The course starts with a gentle walk to pick a few key easily identifiable wild foods and garden herbs & flowers such as nettles, blackberries, wild garlic, elderflowers, wild strawberries, sorrel, nasturtium flowers, roses, crab apples & elderberries. Some identification tips will be given and it will be strongly emphasised that there are poisonous species in the wild. Children will be told to only eat leaves if they check with an adult first.
The foraging trip will be followed by a 1.5 hour cooking session where we will prepare our lunch.
EXAMPLES OF DISHES YOU MAY LEARN TO COOK ON A CHILDREN’S COOKING CLUB DAY:
- Nettle, wild garlic or sorrel soup
- Bread with wild herbs
- Nettle pizza
- Fresh pasta using nettles or sea spinach & beetroot to create green & pink pasta
- Wild garlic or nettle pesto
- Nettle & sorrel frittata
- Bunny burgers
- Blackberry compote with carragheen seaweed pannacotta
- Fruit leather
- Blackberry and apple jam
- Elderflower cordial
- Elderflower ice cream
- Blackberry ripple ice cream
WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE COURSE?
Refreshments, a 2 course lunch, e-mail recipe pack.
WHAT SHOULD YOU BRING?
A bottle of water, waterproof clothing, walking shoes/boots or wellies.
IS THE COURSE SUITABLE FOR VEGETARIANS?
Yes, there are always vegetarian options and we also cater for food intolerances like gluten and dairy free diets. Please let us know in advance
