Our traditional Cornish granite barn was restored from a derelict ruin with goats living in it and holes in the roof to a beautiful space for people to gather and feast together.
It was a massive undertaking which we began in 2005.
The intention was to get a roof on and windows in for our wedding in May 2006 and with help from our friends and a team of builders we got the barn watertight for the wedding. We spent several more years after that building the internal structure and finally completed the open plan kitchen for Fat Hen in 2013.
It’s a great space for communal eating. We have two 8ft farmhouse tables which can comfortably seat 20 people. We can host lunches and dinner parties here for small groups up to 20.
The open plan kitchen has a demonstration unit with old factory lights above and is a superb platform for chefs to cook at and to demonstrate some of the techniques we use here at Fat Hen.
